The Last King of Scotland
-As the sequence begins, what sounds do we hear before the music begins?
At the beginning we can hear Forest Whitaker playing his accordion, and as the scene changes to James McAvoy we can hear birds chirping and the sounds of door opening. As James enters the house suspenseful music starts playing.
-As the music begins we only see Nicholas' face, not what he sees. How is the music used to indicate that all is not well?
The music is this scene is suspenseful, mysterious, intense and we could see Nicholas' face expression, he's look confused, worried, in disbelief.
-How does the music change as he picks up the photograph? What mood or emotion is suggested?
The music is dark, intense it makes you nervous about whats gonna happen next.
-As he notices the envelope, how does the music indicate that it is unlikely to contain good news?
The music picks up pace, its now faster, still intense building suspense until he sees whats in the envelope, the music then reaches climax and it slowly fades out.
-How does the music change as he opens the envelope and discovers his new Ugandan passport? What does the music tell us about Nicholas' feelings?
When he opens the letter, music sort of reaches climax to show the reveal of his passport. James feels shocked, in disbelief.
-The image changes to blurred headlamps. A new style of music is heard. Try to describe this music and how it changes as he gets to the door.
The music is dark, now faster. Gives you the feeling that something is wrong. And as he gets to the door it slows down, and when the other guy opens the door music completely fades out, it feels much more calmer after.
